I teach using HMH’s Into Reading as my curriculum. It is very scripted but required from my district. So to bring in a bit more fun, we dressed in togas and acted out the drama.

The togas were made from a roll of plastic table cloth that I got from Amazon. (1 and 1/4 roll was enough for 22 4th graders)  I just cut and stapled them on. This was a bit time intensive but I put them together during some independent work time.

Also to set the scene, we hung Parthenon (I think. May be the Acropolis?) photo backdrops in the hallway to help the whole grade level get excited. In my classroom, I also used a Medusa shower curtain to gain interest.

Actors and actresses also had some prompts (Medusa headband, crowns, play sword and shield) to help denote their parts.

We had a blast… and more importantly, my kids can now tell you about the story and parts of a drama.
